Manufacturer Pages — Three Directions

One template for ~399 brand pages · Tennant as the worked example · the direction is the decision on the table

The page lists machines when people come to find their machine

Today's Tennant page puts 252 machine tiles, and the same 252 models again in the sidebar, in front of every part. The first part is 11,870px down on a desktop and 33 screens down on a phone.

Three directions fix it for every brand at once. Each comes with quick wins, near-term updates and a future, and each move is marked as BigCommerce out of the box (OOTB), an app, or custom work. Recommended: Direction A's machine-first layout, with C's documents and service strip, and B's filters arriving in two steps. In the prototypes, switch directions with the concept bar at the bottom left, and turn on "Build notes" to see how each part of the page ships.

Machine-first — "Which Tennant do you have?"

The page routes you to your machine's page, where the parts, diagrams and manuals already live.
Grows with models · ~245 rows for Tennant Recommended base Prototype ready

What's in

  • A model search at the top: the live homepage finder, pre-set to the brand, with "Where's my model number?" help
  • Popular machines, then type chips that filter grouped tiles
  • Older and untagged models, collapsed into one list grouped by number
  • Part search and part-type links as the second way in

How it ships

  • Quick wins: category sort order (OOTB); one model list instead of two (OOTB setting or a one-line edit); the finder at the top (small custom)
  • Near-term: a brand template, plus a type tag per model (custom template, spreadsheet data)
  • Future: serial lookup, identify from a photo, your machines first (custom)

Parts-first — "Shop Tennant parts"

The page becomes a real filterable catalog, with results above the fold.
Grows with the catalog · 10,000+ parts Prototype ready

What's in

  • Search within the brand at the top, by part number or name
  • Filters: fits model, part type, genuine Tennant or aftermarket, ships same day, price
  • Result cards with consistent labels, "Fits T500E, T7 +1", quantity and add to cart
  • The machine list, demoted to one link

How it ships

  • Quick wins: native filters for this category, including "fits model" from the model subcategories (OOTB); search moved to the top (a small edit)
  • Near-term: HawkSearch landing pages (an app already paid for; waits on dashboard access); part-type chips, which need one clean part-type field
  • Future: fits my machines, OEM-to-aftermarket cross-reference, bought-before first

Brand hub — "Tennant, all in one place"

The page keeps its heading's promise: parts, diagrams, manuals and support, then routes you on.
Grows with brands · content per brand Prototype ready

What's in

  • Three doors: find parts for your machine, shop by part type, diagrams and manuals
  • Popular machines and top consumables rows
  • Documentation cards and a service block, reusing the model-landing components
  • A short FAQ, written to be quoted by search engines and AI assistants

How it ships

  • Quick wins: rewrite the category description into the doors, a service line and the FAQ (OOTB); Page Builder rows if the theme allows them (to verify)
  • Near-term: one brand-hub template fed by category data, top 20 brands (custom)
  • Future: a personalized hub; clickable diagrams (an app, or custom on Catalyst)

The decision in focus

What the page's data grows with decides how fast each direction can ship.

The dividing line

A and C grow with the number of machines and brands; B grows with the catalog.

Tagging machine types for Tennant is about 245 rows in a spreadsheet, and it finishes. Tagging part types is 10,000+ rows for Tennant alone: the catalog project the model-landing decision (PD-008) already sized in months.

✓ What the recommended path ships first

  • Fix the finder, which sends Tennant, Floorcare.biz and other shoppers to a 404 today
  • Clean the model list: merge duplicates with redirects, drop the charger and the off-brand 355 tile
  • Sort order: popular and current models first
  • Native filters: fits model, in stock, price
  • Search at the top: the existing search within the brand
  • Documents and service: links in the description

○ What waits

  • Machine-type groups: need the brand template and a type tag per model
  • HawkSearch filtering: waits on dashboard access
  • Part-type chips: need a clean part-type field across the catalog
  • Serial and photo lookup, personal pages: future, data-gated

The recommendation for this review

Suggested path

Start the quick wins on today's template now, then build one brand template on Direction A with C's documents and service strip. The quick wins are mostly settings and content. They fix the finder that sends Tennant shoppers to a 404, put popular machines first, add native filters, and move search above the tiles. The template turns 252 tiles into a finder and typed groups, top 20 brands first.

Direction B stays the destination for filtering. It arrives in two steps: native filters now, HawkSearch landing pages once dashboard access lands.

What we need from you

1. Pick a direction. 2. Confirm the BigCommerce plan, Pro or Enterprise, which decides custom-field filters. 3. HawkSearch dashboard access. 4. How model categories are maintained: T500E already lists 713 parts, which may mean part-to-model fitment already exists. 5. Approval to merge the duplicate models and add the redirects.
